Benelux Part 1 (Luxembourg)

Sorry to take over the blog, but Joh and I wanted to share some of the photos of our trip to Be-ne-lux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg). Yet we didn't visit them in that order. Photos were provided by our privately hired and personal photographer that traveled everywhere with us.

Luxembourg was our first stop. It was a beautiful clean city. The levels were amazing.
The first day we wandered around trying to find a place to eat dinner.
We found a fish place. The fish soup was horrible but Pris had her first oysters.

The next day we had some rain but ventured down to the lower part of the city.
The canals wound through the houses.

The fortifications of the city were intense. We took a tour of casements (underground fortress in the rock).
This is the view from the casements. The gardens were full and manicured.

I can see how this would be a good place to be if someone was attacking.

 Where's waldo?
They tore down many other fortress after declaring neutrality.
That day was also the Tour De Luxumbourg. Winding streets wet with rain made a good race.

 Narrow streets
 The palace of the Duke.
 Their Notre Dame.

On our way out of the city, we had to pay homage to ol' blood and guts.

I am still amazed at the number of dead. So sad. The most amazing story were the two medal of honor recipients buried there.  Here is one of the stories http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_G._Turner
The guy there told us that he didn't even die in that battle, but the story of his death was even more amazing. Just to summarize, he was shot six times and still was able to kill 7 enemy on a convoy.
Here is the second one.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_D._McGee (this soldier was a conscientious objector and didn't even carry a gun).

On our way to Brussels we stopped in the Belgium city of Bouillon. The castle was amazing.

 So was the company!

The castle had a falconry, with a lot of different species. This was one of two Harris Hawks.

The Belgium Army was practicing maneuvers. Descending rapidly from a castle.???

I would have loved to try it.
